Cinnamon Sugar Baked Apple Chips: Easy Sweet Snack

  • Author: Lilya
  • Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes
  • Yield: 4-5 servings 1x

Description

These crispy, sweet, and gluten-free baked apple chips are an easy, foolproof snack that feels indulgent yet healthy. Made with simple ingredients like apples, cinnamon, sugar, and a honey drizzle, they are perfect for any time of day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 large apples (such as Honeycrisp or Fuji), cored and sliced into 1/8-inch rings
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 23 tablespoons honey (for drizzle)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional, to prevent browning)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 225°F (107°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Wash and core the apples. Slice them crosswise into rings approximately 1/8-inch thick, ensuring uniform thickness for even baking.
  3. Place apple slices in a large bowl. Sprinkle with granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and sea salt. Toss gently with hands until every slice is evenly coated. Add lemon juice if using.
  4. Arrange apple slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheets, ensuring they do not overlap to allow for proper air circulation.
  5. Bake for 45-60 minutes, or until edges curl slightly, centers look translucent and dry, and chips feel firm but not brittle.
  6. Remove from oven and let cool on pans for 5 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely; this step is crucial for achieving crispiness.
  7. Once completely cool, drizzle with honey in a zigzag pattern. Optionally dust with extra cinnamon.
  8. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.

Notes

Uniform slices are essential for even baking; use a mandoline if possible. Low and slow baking at 225°F prevents burning while drying the apples. If chips are chewy, bake for 10 more minutes. If they get soft due to humidity, re-crisp in a 200°F oven for 5 minutes. Avoid Red Delicious apples as they turn to mush.
