Description
A timeless, simple, and cozy bourbon cocktail brightened with fresh orange peel and aromatic bitters. This classic Old Fashioned is easy to make and impresses every time.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 oz bourbon
- 1 sugar cube or 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 3–4 dashes Angostura bitters
- 1 large strip orange peel
- Ice (large cubes or spheres)
- Optional: splash of club soda
Instructions
- Place the sugar cube (or teaspoon) in your glass. Add 3-4 dashes of Angostura bitters on top. Muddle together until the sugar dissolves slightly and mixes with the bitters to create a fragrant, syrupy base.
- Pour in 2 ounces of bourbon. Stir gently with a bar spoon to combine with the bitters and sugar mixture.
- Add one or two large ice cubes to the glass.
- Hold the orange peel over the glass, skin side down, and gently squeeze to release the oils. Run the peel around the rim of the glass, then drop it into the drink as garnish.
- Stir the cocktail gently a few times to chill and marry the flavors.
- Optional: Add a tiny splash of club soda for a slight fizz.
Notes
Use large ice cubes or spheres to slow melting and avoid dilution. Chill the glass beforehand for a more elevated aroma. Stir gently instead of shaking to keep the bourbon silky and clear. Fresh orange peel is essential for bright citrus oils. You can substitute simple syrup for sugar cube to skip muddling.
