Crispy Sweet Chili Tofu: 30-Minute Healthy Weeknight Dinner

  • Author: Lilya
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A quick, healthy, and crispy baked tofu dish coated in cornstarch and tossed in a savory-sweet chili glaze. Ready in just 30 minutes with pantry-friendly ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1416 oz extra-firm tofu
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil (avocado or canola)
  • 1/2 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 stalks green onions, sliced
  • Steamed rice or noodles for serving

Instructions

  1. Drain the tofu. If not super-firm, wrap in a towel and press for 10 minutes to remove excess water. Cut into 1-inch cubes.
  2. Place tofu cubes in a large bowl and sprinkle with cornstarch. Toss gently to coat lightly, shaking off any excess.
  3. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place a wire rack on top. Lightly spray the rack with oil.
  4. Arrange tofu cubes in a single layer on the rack, ensuring they are not touching. Bake for 20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
  5. While tofu bakes, combine sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes in a small saucepan. Warm over medium heat for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened.
  6. Remove tofu from oven and transfer to a serving bowl. Pour warm sauce over hot tofu and toss gently to coat.
  7. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve immediately over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

For extra crispiness, ensure tofu is pressed well and cubes are not touching on the rack. Reheat leftovers in the oven or air fryer to maintain texture; avoid microwaving. Use tamari instead of soy sauce for a gluten-free version.
