Description
A quick and easy savory-sweet dessert bar made with crushed soft pretzels, butter, and a rich topping of butterscotch and white chocolate chips, finished with a drizzle of salted caramel sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large bag (16–18 oz / 450g) soft pretzels
- ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
- ¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
- 1 cup (170g) butterscotch chips
- ½ cup (85g) white chocolate chips
- 1 jar (12-16 oz / 340-450g) salted caramel sauce
- Sea salt flakes, for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides, and grease the parchment.
- Break soft pretzels into small pieces and place them in zip-top bags. Crush with a rolling pin until they are small chunks, not fine crumbs.
- In a large bowl, combine crushed pretzels, melted butter, sugar, and cinnamon. Toss until pretzels are evenly coated.
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared pan and press firmly into an even layer about ½ inch thick. Ensure it reaches all corners.
- Bake the base for 10 minutes until lightly golden and set. Remove from oven but keep the oven on.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine butterscotch and white chocolate chips. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until melted and smooth.
- Pour the melted chip mixture over the hot pretzel base and spread evenly.
- Drizzle salted caramel sauce over the chips in a zigzag pattern and sprinkle with sea salt flakes.
- Return to the oven and bake for 5 minutes to set the topping.
- Let the bars cool completely in the pan for at least 30 minutes before lifting out and slicing into squares.
Notes
Do not crush pretzels too finely; chunks provide better texture. Press the base firmly to prevent crumbling. Warm the caramel sauce slightly before drizzling for easier application. Cool completely before slicing to ensure clean cuts.
