Oktoberfest Soft Pretzel Cookie Bars with Salted Caramel Drizzle

  • Author: Lilya
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x

Description

A quick and easy savory-sweet dessert bar made with crushed soft pretzels, butter, and a rich topping of butterscotch and white chocolate chips, finished with a drizzle of salted caramel sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large bag (1618 oz / 450g) soft pretzels
  • ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
  • ¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 cup (170g) butterscotch chips
  • ½ cup (85g) white chocolate chips
  • 1 jar (12-16 oz / 340-450g) salted caramel sauce
  • Sea salt flakes, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides, and grease the parchment.
  2. Break soft pretzels into small pieces and place them in zip-top bags. Crush with a rolling pin until they are small chunks, not fine crumbs.
  3. In a large bowl, combine crushed pretzels, melted butter, sugar, and cinnamon. Toss until pretzels are evenly coated.
  4. Transfer the mixture to the prepared pan and press firmly into an even layer about ½ inch thick. Ensure it reaches all corners.
  5. Bake the base for 10 minutes until lightly golden and set. Remove from oven but keep the oven on.
  6. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine butterscotch and white chocolate chips. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until melted and smooth.
  7. Pour the melted chip mixture over the hot pretzel base and spread evenly.
  8. Drizzle salted caramel sauce over the chips in a zigzag pattern and sprinkle with sea salt flakes.
  9. Return to the oven and bake for 5 minutes to set the topping.
  10. Let the bars cool completely in the pan for at least 30 minutes before lifting out and slicing into squares.

Notes

Do not crush pretzels too finely; chunks provide better texture. Press the base firmly to prevent crumbling. Warm the caramel sauce slightly before drizzling for easier application. Cool completely before slicing to ensure clean cuts.
