Description
A festive, no-cook assembly board featuring toasted bagels, smoked salmon, fresh cream cheese, and vibrant toppings, perfect for breaking the Yom Kippur fast.
Ingredients
- 8–10 large bagels (assorted: plain, everything, poppy seed, cinnamon raisin)
- 8 ounces cream cheese (full-fat, softened)
- 12–16 ounces cold-smoked salmon (lox-style, sliced thin)
- 1/2 cup capers (drained and rinsed)
- 1 medium red onion (thinly sliced)
- 1 bunch fresh dill
- 2 lemons (1 for zest, 1 for wedges)
- 4–6 hard-boiled eggs (sliced, optional)
- 2 avocados (sliced, optional)
- 2 tablespoons everything bagel seasoning
- 2–3 tomatoes (sliced or halved, optional)
- 1 cucumber (sliced into rounds, optional)
Instructions
- Prep ingredients: Slice bagels in half, tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions. Peel and slice hard-boiled eggs. Zest one lemon and cut both lemons into wedges. Drain and pat dry capers.
- Toast bagel halves on a baking sheet or in a toaster until golden brown and crisp. Let cool for a minute.
- Arrange bagel halves on a large serving board, leaving space for toppings.
- Place dollops of cream cheese between bagels. Optionally mix chopped dill, chives, and lemon juice into half the cream cheese for an herb variation.
- Fold or roll smoked salmon slices loosely and drape them over bagels or place on the side of the board.
- Arrange sliced red onions, capers, tomatoes, cucumbers, eggs, and avocado around the board. Use small bowls for loose items like capers and onions.
- Sprinkle everything bagel seasoning over cream cheese mounds.
- Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the salmon and tomatoes. Sprinkle fresh dill leaves over the top.
- Serve immediately with lemon wedges on the side.
